Zhang Yi
Zhang Yi was born in 1972,in the province of An Hui,China and began studying violin at the age of 5.In 1995 he graduated from the Peking Central Conservatory of Music where he majored in conducting. His studies were under the guidance of Prof.Xu Xin and Prof. Ji Ruikai. From 1994to 2000 he was appointed as the Chief Conductor of the China Youth Symphony Orchestra (CYSO).In 1995-96 he leaded the CYSO on tours of Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong which consisted of very successful concerts. During this tour Zhang Yi was received with great acclaim in local news mediums with personal recognition from King and Queen of Malaysia.
As a conductor ,Zhang Yi has a vast repertoire but most memorable are his premier performances of I. Stravinsky's " L'historic du Soldat",W.A.Mozart's opera" Cosi fan tutte", Ye Xiaogang's chamber work "Nine horses" in China. He is not only noted as a conductor on stage but has equal recognition for his directions for recordings. An example of this work is the recording of the CD "New Music from China" by Wergo (Germany). And symphony orchestra works with Saarbrucken Radio Symphony Orchestra. Since 1994, he has conducted over 200 concerts in Asia and Europe and has been invited to be guest conductor with China National Symphony Orchestra, China Traditional instrument Orchestra, Shanghai Radio Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, China Radio Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Symphonitta Orchestra.
From 2000 to 2003 he has studied in the graduate course for conducting with Prof.Max Prommer in the Saarbrucken Musikhochschule.
In 2001 he conducted the world premiere of the ballet "Raise the Red Lantern" in Peking which is composed by Chen Qigang and directed by Zhang Yimou. From 2001 to 2003, he performed this work in Singapore, London and Paris. He will perform this work around the world in the near futrue.
In February 2003,he was appointed as the Principal Conductor and Music Director of National Ballet of China Orchestra.
Liu Ju Conductor
Born into a musical family, Liu Ju began his music education at an early age. After studying at the subsidiary secondary school of the Central Music Conservatory in 1987, he joined the conducting department of Shanghai Music Conservatory in 1992 and graduated with flying colours in 1997.
As conductor of the National Ballet of China Symphony Orchestra since his graduation, his repertoire includes Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, and The Red Detachment of Women. In recent years, he has worked with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Folk Ensemble, China Film Orchestra, and Hong Kong Sinfonietta. He has toured Singapore, Hong Kong and Macao with the orchestra and was invited to perform in the United States in July 2002.
