Nikiya,an Indian bayadere is loved by Solor,a young warrior who breaks his Pledge to her and marries another.Nikiya is poisoned by a confidante of her rival and dies.In Act III,the repentant Solor dreams that he seeks his beloved in the Kingdom of the Shades,and they continue their strong love.
