　　故事梗概

　　第二次世界大战期间，工厂主约翰•凯勒把有裂缝的汽缸盖卖给军队导致飞机失事。当时约翰的儿子拉里正在前线，从报纸上得知这一消息后感到万分愧疚，于是在执行任务时故意坠机自杀。临死前他给女友安写了一封信。约翰在接受调查时却将罪名嫁祸给了合伙人史蒂夫•迪弗尔，迪弗尔因此入狱。迪弗尔的女儿安和儿子乔治从此对狱中的父亲置之不理。

　　三年后，拉里的哥哥克里斯打算和安结婚。但约翰的妻子凯特坚持认为拉里还活着，她希望安和她一样等拉里回来。与此同时，乔治从父亲口中得知约翰才是罪魁祸首，他急忙赶去阻止安和克里斯结合。克里斯从约翰和凯特的对话中得知事情的真相，怒斥父亲杀害了他的兄弟们，约翰却认为自己是为了家庭不得已而为之。安被逼无奈说出了拉里之死的真相，凯勒终于醒悟，他为了小家庭牺牲大家庭铸成大错，害死了二十一名飞行员。最后，他终于说出“他们都是我儿子”，开枪自杀。

　　堪萨斯大学戏剧学院为世界输出美国经典戏剧及全新剧作已有85年之久。作为堪萨斯大学戏剧工作的组成部分以及美国中西部领先的研究院所， 大学戏剧院是一个演员、音乐剧表演者以及舞美、灯光和服装设计师的专业训练场。学院里的学者和艺术家们都将戏剧视为一种理解、整理、规划人类经验的方式，他们将自己视作人类学家，致力发掘人类与这个世界交流过程中的所有行为，并将其转化为可以沟通的形式进行呈现。KU舞台效果课程提供亲身实践的训练，该课程曾在肯尼迪中心美国学院戏剧节上获奖。堪萨斯大学戏剧学院的校友遍布全美各个专业戏剧和教育戏剧领域。在大学戏剧课程中学习表演的学生在纽约百老汇、地方剧团和洛杉矶电影电视行业中担任重要角色。

　　Synopsis

　　Joe Keller and Steve Deever, partners in a machine shopduring the war, turned out defective airplane parts, causing the deaths of manymen. Deever was sent to prison while Keller escaped punishment and went on tomake a lot of money. In a work of tremendous power, a love affair betweenKeller's son, Chris, and Ann Deever, Steve's daughter, the bitterness of GeorgeKeller, who returns from the war to find his father in prison and his father'spartner free, and the reaction of a son to his father's guilt escalate toward aclimax of electrifying intensity。

Departmental faculty, artists andscholars, see theatre as a way of ordering, clarifying, and understanding thehuman experience, seeing themselves as humanists, sharing the general goal ofdiscovering and putting into communicable form hypotheses about human beingsand the world as they interact with it. The KU Scenography curriculum provideshands-on training and is an award-winning program long recognized by theKennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. Our design alumni work in professionaland education theatres throughout the United States. Acting students fromthe University Theatre program have gone on to fame in leading roles on New York’s Broadway and in regional theatres as well asin the film and television world of Los Angeles。
