Nicholas Naegele (violin) started violin studies at age 4 from Jeri-Lou Zike. At age 8 he went with his family on a missions trip to Africa, where he performed as part of the missions work. Back home he joined a string ensemble at the North Shore School of Music (now the Music Institute of Chicago) in third grade, playing concertmaster by fifth grade. Come eighth grade he joined Midwest Young Artists’ orchestras, playing concertmaster in their Concert and Symphony orchestras by ninth and twelfth grades, respectively. In these years he also twice attended the Northwestern High School Music Institute, at various points playing in an honors recital, in an honors chamber group, and as concertmaster of the Institute’s orchestra. Additionally, in the fall of 2001 he gave a music chapel at Institute (playing before the entire student body), and he also received honorable mention in the Nancy Fuqua Memorial competition 2003. He started attending the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) on scholarship the same year, playing concertmaster in the school’s Concert Orchestra by the following spring. At CCM he studies violin as an undergraduate with Piotr Milewski, while seeking a second degree in math and a certificate in service.
