Krainev’s outstanding performance at international competitions (such as 1st prize at the International Piano Competition in Lissabon in 1964 and 1st prize at the Tschaikowsky Competition in Moscow in 1970) led to a successful career as a soloist with the world’s most renowned symphonic orchestras and conductors, such as P. Boulez, K. Masur, A. Dorati, C. -M. Giulini, G. Roshdestwensky and D. Kitajenko.
Vladimir Krainev made recordings of the 27 piano concertos by Mozart with the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra under S. Sandezkis, of five piano concertos by S. Prokofieff with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra under D. Kitajenko and of the Series “Anthology of the Piano Concerto” with important piano concertos by Russian composers. For this last recording Krainev was awarded the “Golden Disc” by the Record Company “Melodia”.
As a chamber musician Krainev performed with accomplished soloists such as Gidon Kremer, Heinrich Schiff and David Geringas. Vladimir Krainev is presently teaching at the Academy for Music in Moscow as well as, since 1992, at the State Academy of Music in Hannover. He conducted numerous international (master-) courses in France, Germany and the US, which testify to his abilities as a teacher.
Vladimir Krainev is a member of the jury at piano competitions in Leeds, Tokyo, Bolzano and Moscow. In 2002 he has been asked to chair the International Tschaikowsky Competition for pianists in Moscow.
